The original NOTW post featuring this polish was a bit shoddier than usual, the picture having been taken on my iPhone, and the content itself written while I was half-asleep on a train.
Hey, it happens.
But I pulled out Already Famous earlier this week, and once I got it into my nails, I realized the original post needed to be amended. The color is the same (obviously!) and I enjoy it just as much, but I didn't realize how aggravatingly sheer the formula is. I had shorter nails when I first showed it, which might explain why--now that my nails are longer, I really had to pile the color on to cover my white tips (and it still didn't cover them completely).
I had to do three layers this time around (3.5 for the extra polish on my tips) which naturally resulted in that build-up feeling around the cuticles. You know, when you can really tell that there's too much product on your nails and it almost starts to be uncomfortable? I could put up with that for how much I love this bronzey, taupey, burnished metallic gold color, but that makes the sheerness even more annoying.
Boring polishes with a crappy formula are easy to ignore or even throw away. But a beautifully interesting and hard-to-dupe nail color you love that has a terribly sheer formula is maddening.
This is a perfect example of what I dislike about Sephora by OPI nail polishes. Some are alright in terms of pigmentation, but others are annoyingly sheer, streaky and runny in formula--it's mediocre or miss. I do think they've made a general improvement as the polishes no longer chip terribly, but obviously there's still a lot to be desired.
I hope this post doesn't seem out of the blue, but I thought it was worth mentioning, especially as this is in the Sephora by OPI Tinseltown gift set--a popular present this time of year. That's not at all to say that you shouldn't buy that kit because this formula is sheer, but that you should prepare for a bittersweet mixture of disappointment and love with Already Famous.
No updates again this week, I'm afraid. I have the last of my exams tomorrow and have barely left the library, though I'm thrilled to be finished and begin enjoying the holidays!
Speaking of which, my Christmas NOTW will involve my exciting second attempt at nail art--post will be up Tuesday!
Have a beautiful weekend!
