NOTW: Essie Devil's Advocate

Saturday, September 22, 2012

The minute I compared last week's nail polish to Lincoln Park After Dark, I suddenly craved the almost pitch-black plummy burgundy. I'm not usually one for almost-black nails, but when a nail polish craving strikes, what else can you do but give in?

Sadly, my bottle of L.P.A.D is still on loan to a friend, but I made do with a random bottle of Essie that I found in the depths of my collection. I hadn't seen it in ages, so it felt almost new to put on!

Devil's Advocate is exactly what a blackberry nail polish would look like. So dark it's almost black, but with tons of plummy, warm tones that give it a touch of merlot. I'm not actually sure that almost-black is a valid description, since anyone who has worn black nail polish before would know that this is not it. To the average stranger, though, it might look like a perfect Halloween black.

I expect to get a lot of usage out of this color this season, as it makes for a perfect base for some nail art experiments I have planned. I haven't given up on DIY nail designs yet!

Updates!
  • It's the first day of fall and so far I've spent a beautiful day outside. Can't wait for a season of perfect walking weather, family gatherings and snuggling up with hot beverages--not to mention consuming an obscene amount of pumpkin-based food!

  • Speaking of colder weather, I just bought my new casual, everyday fall/winter coat. This Topshop toggle coat reminds me of one I wore as a ten-year-old and I love the detachable hood. I also bought some accessories (white knit infinity scarf and some jewelry) but you'll see those in a bit.
  • My work schedule has forced me to become a morning person, and I absolutely hate it. My precious past-midnight hours are my most productive, and to sacrifice them in order to wake up early has been terrible.
  • Since my oven is out of order, the list of seasonal goodies I can create has been drastically shortened. I'm thinking of trying salted caramel (or spiced caramel?) tomorrow, and if anyone has any no-bake dessert suggestions, let me know!
  • Without a doubt, the makeup that never withstands my workday is my under-eye concealer. No matter which one I use, it always looks creased and splotchy by 6:00, so I'm thinking of trying Estee Lauder Double Wear. Very convenient now that they're stocked at Sephora!
  • Am I the only one a little underwhelmed by the Karl Lagerfeld/Shu Uemura holiday collaboration? The packaging is cute, yes, but I was hoping to see some specially designed drawing pencils--Karl has said himself that he sketches with them.
  • Has anyone else found that Clinique Bottom Lash dries out quickly? I've only had mine for about two months but it's started to get a little funky on me.

I'm off to play outside with two very adorable dogs!

Hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful autumnal day!
