Haul: Ulta, Target, CVS

Monday, June 4, 2012

After restricting myself from making any beauty purchases for the past few weeks, I finally allowed myself to do some shopping. But most things were staple, need-to-repurchase items (which I don't count) and others were majorly discounted (which I don't count, either) so I'll go ahead and excuse the spending. =)

I went to see my cousin in New Jersey this weekend, which of course meant me hounding her for trips to Ulta and Target. She very nicely took me, and I got the opportunity to stock up on some necessities and pick up a couple of exciting items.

My beloved, must-have, Batiste Dry Shampoo (post) is a product that I always buy at Ulta, partially because it's cheaper, but also because they have a better selection of scents. Duane Reade and CVS typically only carry Original or Blush, but Fresh is my absolute favorite and I've only ever seen it at Ulta. They also had one I had never seen before called Proud & True Brit so I picked it up as well, though I don't know if it's part of the regular line, or if it was specially launched for the Diamond Jubilee or something.

Surprisingly, it had been a while since I had made any nail polish purchases since nothing from the last few OPI collections (NYC Ballet and Spider-Man) caught my eye. But it's very rare for me to go through Ulta's polish racks and not walk away with something, and this time I came out with three new bottles.

Left to right: Orly Royal Velvet, Orly After Party and Zoya Kelly. Can you tell that I'm not really in the mood for summer brights?

Target was our next stop, and I was on the hunt for the new Revlon Balm Stains, and lo and behold, found them! Color selection was very limited, so I couldn't get my paws on Romantic or Rendezvous, but am still pleased with Smitten. Review coming soon!

I've been after a double-pronged curling/waving wand since I saw this video, and found the Remington Wrap to Waves Styler for a mere $22 in the hair tools aisle. Still too early for a review, since I've only used it once, but I will say that usage is not as complicated or prone to burned fingers as you might think.

My first (messy) play!

Back at home I made my usual drugstore rounds, first stopping to pick up some new makeup removing wipes. I'm almost out of my Pond's ones, but decided to try the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes instead.

Bodycare items were next on the list as I was out of my preferred shaving cream, the EOS Shave Cream and needed a new one. Normally Pomegranate Raspberry is the one I use, but decided to give Lavender Jasmine a try this time. And while I have quite a few bottles of body lotion, everything I own is large with a pump-top, and I needed something more compact for short trips, so I got the Love & Toast Dew Blossom Body Lotion (mostly for its packaging--how cute!).

Haircare-wise, Duane Reade had a Lisa Rachel Sulfate-Free Cleansing Conditioner in their clearance section (not exactly a promising sign of quality product) and despite my reservations about this type of hair product, for $2.50 it couldn't be passed up. A little anxious to try it, but more curious than anything else! And since I'm looking for a way to bring some more wave into my long and boring hair, I picked up the Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray as well. Salt sprays tend to leave my locks dry and crunchy and I'm big on soft hair, but I sneakily sprayed it on my hand in the store and it didn't feel sticky--a good sign! (*I have a feeling the spray coupled with the Remington wand would result in the most fabulous natural-looking, carefree waves!)

Phew!

I love the feeling of a new bag of beauty goodies to play with!

Reviews will eventually be up on all these things (likely in the form of Unfinished Business posts), but out of everything shown here, I'm already in love with the Remington wand and the Revlon Balm Stain.

You'll definitely see more of them soon!

Happy Monday!
