Worth Every Penny?: Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Okay, I admit it: the packaging suckered me in.

Between the shape of the bottle, the sea-foamy green glass and the faux cork top, not purchasing just wasn't an option! I've been on the hunt for my perfect daily moisturizer for a while since discovering that my once beloved Clean and Clear one tests on animals and this was the perfect opportunity to try one out, right?

My ideal moisturizer is one with an SPF of at least 15, lightweight, absorbs quickly, and leaves my face fairly matte, or at least not excessively glowy (I have oily skin, so just about everything I put on my face is to help cancel out shine). I'm happy to report that this Benefit one satisfies the sun protection and lightweight requirements and while it does look a little bit too dewy when first applied, that goes away once its rubbed in. But what I love best about this moisturizer (other than its seaweed, oceany scent) is how soft it makes my skin feel! That's actually something the Clean and Clear never did for me.

This very well could be a perfect everyday moisturizer, but the price and the practically miniscule amount you get are deal-breakers for me. It's $28 for 1.7 ounces and I go through this stuff pretty quickly, which is extremely annoying. I've thrown in a picture of the moisturizer next to your standard Poland Spring bottle, just so you can see how small it actually is.

I wouldn't be opposed to spending more money on a daily moisturizer as long as it lasted me a reasonable amount of time, but this just doesn't. I swear, the bottle's glass must be really thick or something because there's such a small amount of product inside!

I'm probably won't repurchase this even though I really like it, because the value is just god-awful and I'm sure it's not the only moisturizer of its kind. I'll wait until I finish the bottle and then resume the search from there. I would, however, love to try some other products from Benefit's skincare line, like the cleanser and eye cream if they're anything like the facial emulsion.

If any of you know of a moisturizer that you think I'd like, please let me know in the comments!

Hope you're all well and to my fellow East Coasters: stay safe and know your hurricane precautions/evacuation plans!
