NOTW: OPI I'm Not Really a Waitress/Glitzerland. And Harry.

I know, I know! I just did a Nail of the Week post! But this, ladies and gents, is not just any other NOTW post--it's a Harry Potter themed one.

Tonight I'm going to the 9 pm showing of Deathly Hallows Part 1, followed by the midnight premiere of Part 2 and I'm ridiculously thrilled! I've gone to the midnight opening of the launch of every book beginning with Goblet of Fire, and the midnight premiere of every movie.

So yes, I'm a fan. These books are really the finest example of storytelling I've ever read--between the foreshadowing, layering, and intricate details, this story really is magical. I'm sure I'll cry at least three times tonight but it won't really feel like it's all over for me because I revisit the books so much. (That's the best part, by the way. J.K. Rowling is such a master craftswoman that every time I reread a book or the whole series, I pick up some more clues or hints I never noticed before).

Harry has been a huge part of my childhood--every loss for him was one I felt deeply and I feel so immersed in his story. But even beyond that, I have some wonderful memories formed through Harry Potter experiences--of going to those midnight launches with my friends. We would get dressed up, (robes, stuffed owls, wands, eyeliner scars and all), go to Barnes and Noble, wait excitedly chattering for hours, and scream once we had the books in our hands. And then we would go back to one of our homes close by, sit down in a circle and read in complete silence for hours. The movie premieres were no different, of course, only we would spend our night rehashing our favorite scenes and comparing the film version to the book.

It's things like that I'm going to miss.

Now I don't think I'll go full-on dressed up for tonight's movie, but I'll definitely be working my eyeliner scar and Harry glasses. But I also thought I'd pay homage with my nail polish representing the signature red and gold colors of Gryffindor. There are a lot of mixed opinions on what the actual hues are (see? there are people more obsessive than me!) but I imagine a scarletish-maroon color and a pure, bright gold. I used I'm Not Really a Waitress (love the name!)--a vampy, metallic dark red and Glitzerland for my ring fingers. To be completely honest, I'm not even sure if I really like this look. This is my first endeavor in painting the fourth finger a separate color and it might just be me, but it seems the contrast between the red and gold is too sharp. Maybe it'll grow on me? I also wanted to draw a lightning bolt on each of my nails, but I thought it was a little beyond my capabilities considering I can't even paint my nails neatly!

The overall effect is a little Christmassy, I admit, but it'll feel more appropriate once I'm waiting in line with a scar on my forehead.

I'm off to the theaters with packs of tissues hidden in my purse! If you're not a Harry Potter fan, I'm sorry if my nostalgic spiel bored you, but hopefully it'll inspire you to read the books, as I think everyone should.

And if you are a fan of Harry, please, please, please leave me a comment! Those incredible books are some of my favorite things to talk about and I'd love to hear from you! Favorite character, quote, book, movie, or anything you like--write it below!

I'll leave you all with the quote that had me bawling by none other than Miss Rowling herself: "The stories we love best live in us forever so whether you return by page or by film, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home."

Thank you, J.K.
