Cheapie but Goodie: Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

A while back, I sang my praises of the Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller. It's not that I've changed my mind on that or anything, but that product is now too sheer for the terrible number of hours I'm sleeping. I was wearing it as per usual when I popped into the bathroom to do some primping and realized my concealer wasn't doing its job very well. Long story short, my circles are too dark, the roller is too sheer and it looked like I painted a thin layer over my shadows--you could still really see them. That's pretty much a makeup nightmare for me; looking like you're actively trying to hide a flaw but failing completely.

So I went off on the hunt for a new under-eye concealer that originally began at Sephora but ended up in CVS after checking my bank statements (!). I was originally eyeing up the Revlon Photoready concealer, but spotted the Rimmel Match Perfection and just about lost my mind as I didn't think that particular item was sold in the States. I'd heard a few times that it's a great duplicate for the overrated, overpriced YSL Touche Eclat (yes, I've tried it) so naturally it came home with me.

Folks, I think this $6.99 squeeze tube beats the crap out of the $40 Touche Eclat any day. I've been wearing Match Perfection for over a week now, and I think I might be in love. The texture is absolutely phenomenal--creamy but not thick, light enough to blend very easily, and not so runny it wears off or gathers in my creases.

Can I get an Amen?!

It also stays on really well--New York humidity is no joke, but this concealer can very clearly stand up to the challenge. I even wore it the night I went to see Deathly Hallows Part 2 and it could even hold its own against buckets of tears. It wasn't picture perfect when I finally stopped blubbering (LOL not even ashamed of it), but it still looked pretty darn good.

I don't think it's quite as illuminating as the YSL, but it does have a bit of that shimmery effect if you look up close. Match Perfection is definitely more of a concealer than a highlighter, but that's totally flipped for the Touche Eclat.

In terms of coverage, this is absolutely not going to get rid of the darkest under-eye circles. (Sorry guys!) While it does conceal a lot more than the Garnier Anti-Dark Roller, Match Perfection still does run slightly sheer. For everyday wear, I don't really care if it's a tiny bit shadowy under my eyes, as it probably isn't that noticeable anyways. But if you like a totally full coverage, heavy-duty concealer, this wouldn't be it for you.

My only complaint here is with the packaging--as you can tell from the picture, you squeeze the tube and brush it on. I don't know if it's just mine, but it feels like I have to squeeze a lot harder and longer than should be necessary to get the product out. It's not something you'd break a sweat doing by any means, but it's a little annoying to struggle with in the morning.

I've been fishing around my Duane Reades and Walgreens for this product, but it seems I've only seen it at CVS. If you live in the UK, this should be a cinch to get your hands on if you haven't already tried it, but it might require a little more hunting in the States.

I'm really excited about some of the posts coming up--I recently picked up some things to play with and test out; makeup and other random's a sneak peek at one of them!

Both my grandmother and my mother roll their hair, and I felt it was time I accepted my fate. I also like singing Born This Way while doing it. =)

Hope everyone is well!

I'm off for some Thai food and Sprinkles cupcakes with a girlfriend!

Happy Tuesday!
