Parks, Macaroons, and Parisian Scenery--A Day in Pictures!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Today was our last full day in Paris, as our train back to Zurich leaves tomorrow afternoon, and we decided to go out with a bang! This morning began with my cousin and I making a list of things we had to accomplish today from foods we had to eat to souvenirs for friends we wanted to buy.

At the top of that list was to go sample the famed macaroons of Laduree on the Champs-Elysses...

I know I talked about the Springli macaroons in a different post, but I have to say, these are far superior. The Swiss ones are light and airy, whereas the French ones are much more decadent and chewy. We ordered the chocolate, pistachio, raspberry, and salted caramel...

As much as I liked the non-artificial fruity raspberry with its tiny seeds providing a lovely crunch, I decided that the pistachio is my favorite--buttery, nutty, and sinfully delicious...

Being that they are so delicious, we just had to buy some to go, didn't we? We purchased them under the pretense of giving the treats to friends, but I doubt the box will survive the night. Cue awkward shot of my cousin posing with Laduree's fun window decor!

Because we very clearly needed to eat something sweet after horking down four macaroons, nutella crepes were in order!...

Best of all, we got to enjoy these delicious crepes outdoors at a park near the Arc de Triomphe. The weather was perfect!

We headed back to the apartment for some down time and a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother, and then popped back out to a cafe for our Last Parisian Supper--which, of course, began with more escargot...

And then we moved on to a main course of duck breast...

And duck confit!

Despite how much less-than-healthy food we had already eaten that day, we somehow mustered up the room for molten chocolate cake. (The story behind this dessert is that the couple at a table nearby ordered it first and we could literally smell the cocoa wafting from their plates--clearly we had to get it).

The best way to cap off our trip? A nighttime visit to the Eiffel Tower!

Finally, to round off a perfect day, we took a leisurely, beautiful stroll back to the apartment...

Where two out of three of us were struck with heinous cases of indigestion.

I guess we were kind of asking for it, weren't we? =)

The next post will be from Zurich--likely a French beauty haul!

Hope you're all well!
