Haul: Paris!

Friday, June 17, 2011

I left for Paris avowing not to buy anything unless it couldn't be found in the States, or was cheaper in Europe. This was ridiculous, very few things can't be found back home or online, and almost nothing is cheaper in the EU.

However, the frivolity in me could not be quenched and I did return to Zurich with a few new items, which I allowed myself to purchase by slightly bending my rules.

Bioderma is a hugely popular French skincare line notorious for being hard to track down. One particular product from the brand, their Crealine H20 Solution is something I kept hearing about online and on YouTube, and I knew I had to try it out. It looks exactly like water but is supposed to be the most incredible non-oily, non-stinging makeup remover and cleanser for sensitive skin. I'm not sure I could use it as a cleanser--the idea of washing my face with something that looks and feels like water just doesn't work very well with me--but I can't wait to try it out as a makeup remover. I had seen the Crealine a few times in New York, but it was always absurdly expensive--around $30 for a tiny bottle. Not only was it everywhere in Paris, but it was pretty cheap as well! I got two 500 ml bottles (the ones with pink caps) for 19 euro!

The nice lady at the drugstore also recommended some of the range marketed for oily skin, so I picked up the Sebium Purifying Foaming Cleanser. She said it was great for promoting clear pores and mattifying the face--two things I desperately need. And then, because I clearly wasn't wearing enough concealer that day, she also suggested the Sebium Purifying Corrective Care--a topical gel meant to help pimples dry up faster and heal acne scars.

Now, those four products are the ones that I feel no guilt whatsoever in purchasing. They were all things pretty much exclusive to this side of the Atlantic, and were very reasonably priced.

But I really had no business buying fancy Laura Mercier Creme de Pistache Hand Cream. I can get it in New York and it probably wasn't cheaper in Paris, but I was just having a really off day and needed to perk myself up with retail therapy. To be completely honest, if this stuff wasn't so amazing, I'd probably feel a lot more guilty. But, oh, the scent--THE SCENT! It's the richest, nuttiest, creamiest, pistachio ice cream smell that makes me want to eat it and cry over it at the same time! Laura Mercier does a whole range of Creme de Pistache products--I'm totally eyeing the Souffle Body Creme next!

And last, but not least, the most important member of my makeup bag died in Paris, taking a piece of my heart with it. Yes, folks, my 7-year-old Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler finally kicked the bucket. Any of you who read my Everyday Lash Routine post will understand the gravity of such a loss! I thought I would have to ask my cousin in Taiwan to bring me back one--in case you didn't know, Shu Uemura pulled all their North American counters and stores this past July. But luckily, the Japanese line is still available in Europe and I was reunited with my beloved eyelash curler at the Gallerie Lafayette.

I probably won't get around to trying out the Bioderma stuff until I get home, just because it'll be much easier to pack if left unopened. But if you want a review on any of the aforementioned products, just ask in the comments section below and I'll get around to it!

I've bought a few things here in Switzerland too, so expect a Zurich haul to be posted one of these days!

Hope you're all well and have a lovely weekend!

We're off to enjoy ice cream outdoors in this gorgeous weather--one thing I'm not looking forward to returning to is that ghastly New York humidity...
